Hohner welcomes you to the world of playing guitar. The Hohner HW03 is handcrafted with a Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. This wood match-up creates a crisp texture to the overall sound of the instrument. The smaller scale of this instrument (considered ¾ sized) is specially designed with the younger player in mind and is highly recommended for the players that are starting between the ages of 8-12. This instrument also comes equipped with light gauge steel strings for easier fingering as to not discourage the first time player. Hohner has a long tradition of supporting music education. Hohner HW03 3/4 Sized Steel String Acoustic Guitar Reviews
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Very nice sound, By DN (Worcester, MA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Hohner HW03 3/4 Sized Steel String Acoustic Guitar (Electronics) Great guitar for a schoolkid just learning to play. While it's a great starter guitar, it's not a toy -- it has a very nice sound. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful A good option for a child beginner, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Hohner HW03 3/4 Sized Steel String Acoustic Guitar (Electronics) I picked this instrument up for my then seven-year-old son, who was starting to show an interest in guitar and who didn't have the finger strength or hand size to play a full-sized acoustic easily. After doing some product research, this guitar seemed a decent value and I purchased it "unplayed" from Amazon, something I've never done with a musical instrument before.Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase and my son loves it. For the price, it seems a good value. If I wanted to be picky, I'd say that the sound is a little variable, with more volume in a relatively narrow band of the midrange than I'm used to, and the tone is slightly tinny (possibly a product of the stock strings I have on it). The body cavity, being a 3/4-sized guitar, lends the lower notes a "punchy" character that muddles six-string chords slightly (an effect particularly seen when I drop into DADGAD or other alternative tunings). It's an adult guitar that a child could easily learn on, thought the neck is wide and chunky like a regular guitar. The tuners stay in tune well enough, give it a week or so to settle after receiving the guitar or changing strings. It has a high gloss lacquer finish, and the bridge height is adjustable using two built-in screws. This lets you raise or lower the action to your liking, but make sure you loosen the strings before you try this. The build quality is perfectly fine in an instrument at this price point. Over time I've noticed some wear on the paint where the neck meets the fretboard, but it's nothing anyone would notice and doesn't affect playability. It's a smaller guitar, so it's never going to be as loud as a dreadnought. But it's size means that you don't get "boomy" bass notes but instead an even balance of frequencies from low to high. This... Read more |
